Hiring a wedding DJ should involve more than trying to find the cheapest deal possible.
Besides finding out if a DJ is available on the date you require here are 5 other questions to ask.
1. How long have you been DJing and how much wedding experience do you have?
Just like you’d ask similar questions about experience if you were hiring an employee, be sure to understand your DJ’s past professional experience. How many weddings have they DJ’d at? Do they have a broad musical knowledge from all styles and eras?
2. Can we meet you in person to discuss our wedding?
A professional DJ will have no problem with meeting in person prior to your wedding. It’s important that you feel comfortable with and actually like the DJ you are booking as they will be a big part of your day. You also might find when you meet and get chatting you actually have a lot more questions than you realised.
3. Do you have back up equipment?
What happens if any of the DJ equipment fails? Does the DJ have back up equipment on hand to get through the reception? Can you imagine if say, the mixer fails and there’s no back up? Disaster. Finding this out is important.
4. Do you provide a written contract?
A written contract is important so you know what you’re agreeing to. What time frame is the DJ booked for? Will the DJ be providing a cordless microphone? What are the payment terms? Get as much info as you can in writing so there’s no confusion. It’s great for peace of mind too.
5. Will you work with our playlist and our ‘do not’ playlist?
If you want specific songs to be played, or not played at all, it’s important to discuss this up front with your DJ. Make sure you find a DJ who is flexible and accommodating to your musical wishes. Also discuss how you want them to handle song requests on the night.
